WikiSpikes

What the world suddenly looked up

Privacy

WikiSpikes is a static site. There is no account to make, no profile, and nothing to log in to.

What the pages themselves collect

Nothing. Every page here is a file, written ahead of time and served as it is. There is no database behind them and no form on them beyond the search box, which runs entirely in your browser against a file it downloads — what you type is never sent anywhere.

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sets cookies in your browser and tells Google that a page was viewed. It is used to see which surges people actually read, and nothing else. Browser "do not track" and ad-blocking extensions both stop it, and the site works identically without it.

What the site reads

The measurements come from Wikimedia's public pageview API, which reports how many times an article was viewed in a day. Those counts are aggregate and describe articles, not readers. WikiSpikes has no way of knowing who viewed anything, and does not want one.
