What this article is

Leopold Aschenbrenner is a German artificial intelligence researcher and investor. He was part of OpenAI's "Superalignment" team before he was fired in April 2024 over an alleged information leak, which Aschenbrenner disputes. In 2024, he published an essay titled "Situational Awareness" about the emergence of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and related security risks. The essay attracted widespread media and industry attention, and became the namesake for Aschenbrenner's hedge fund, Situational Awareness LP. The hedge fund, which had $45 billion AUM at its peak, invests in private and public companies involved in AI.

  • Early life

What changed that day

The article grew by 44 characters that day. The largest single addition was 117 characters. See everything that changed on 2026-07-31 in Wikipedia's own diff view — that is where the reason for a surge is usually visible, written and sourced by the editors who were following the story.

How this was measured

Views are Wikimedia's own pageview counts for en.wikipedia, filtered to agent=user so automated traffic is excluded. The baseline is the median of the previous 60 days, which is used instead of the mean so that an earlier surge cannot flatten a later one. The multiple is the day's views divided by that median.
